Market Weighton Business Centre Celebrates 20 Years of Supporting Local Businesses

Market Weighton Business Centre is celebrating 20 years of supporting businesses across the East Riding, providing flexible office and workshop space and professional facilities that help companies start, grow and thrive. The milestone comes as the centre is currently operating at 100% occupancy, highlighting strong demand for flexible business space in the area.

Over the past two decades, the centre has become home to a wide range of organisations, from start-ups to established businesses, offering office space, meeting facilities and a supportive environment that enables businesses to focus on what they do best.

Among the businesses that have benefited from the centre’s facilities is Pinnacle Marquees (UK) Ltd, the Business Centre’s longest-standing tenant. Founded in 2008 by Managing Director Tim Betteridge, the company has operated from its office at Market Weighton Business Centre since incorporation. Pinnacle chose the centre for its professional environment and shared facilities that support meetings, day-to-day operations and client relationships. Access to meeting rooms, technology and shared resources has helped the company strengthen its client base and support continued growth.

To mark the anniversary, a commemorative tree was planted by Pinnacle Marquees (UK) Ltd, the centre’s longest-standing tenant. The tree was planted in memory of Janette Jowett, recognising her contribution and connection to East Riding of Yorkshire Councils portfolio of business centres.

Other tenants have also seen their businesses develop significantly while based at the centre. DSL Global Freight, a freight forwarding company established in 2010, has grown steadily while operating from Market Weighton Business Centre. Starting with a small office and just two members of staff, the company has expanded its services to include international freight forwarding, export packing, import and export documentation and UK same-day courier services. As the business has grown, it has moved into larger space within the centre and now operates from two units with a team of eight employees.

Director Liz Boden said:

“We have been able to grow from a small team to one offering numerous services and still use the Business Centre. When you are running a business there are a lot of plates to keep spinning. It is nice to be able to turn up to work in a warm and clean environment that you don’t have to think about the day-to-day running of and just concentrate on your own business needs.”

The centre has also supported professional services firms such as Norton & Co, which required additional office space at short notice during a period of rapid expansion.

Chris Norton, Director at Norton & Co, said:

“When our business expanded rapidly, we needed office space at short notice, and Market Weighton Business Centre made the process straightforward from the outset. The team were friendly, responsive and efficient, allowing us to secure an office quickly and get set up with minimal disruption. It provided exactly the flexible, practical space we needed at the time.”

Across its twenty-year history, Market Weighton Business Centre has supported businesses to overcome challenges, grow their teams and achieve long-term success while remaining rooted in the local community. One example is Giant Bradley’s Sweet Shop Ltd, which used its time at the centre to build a customer base and establish the business before expanding to high street locations in Market Weighton, Hessle and Hull.

As the centre celebrates this milestone anniversary, its continued focus remains on providing flexible office and workshop space, professional facilities and a supportive environment that enables local businesses to grow and succeed.
