Neptune Sonar expands in East Yorkshire with new Melton West facility

Global underwater technology specialist Neptune Sonar is expanding its East Yorkshire operations after securing new premises at the fast-growing Melton West business park.

The investment will see the company move into the largest unit at Evolve @ Melton West, strengthening the growing cluster of innovative and advanced manufacturing businesses in the area.

Neptune Sonar is a global leader in advanced underwater acoustic technology. The company designs and manufactures products for applications across the maritime technology space, including bespoke sonar transducers – sensor devices that send pulses of sound through water to map out sea depth, underwater objects and fish movements. It is part of the OceanSight group of companies delivering high-resolution subsea intelligence globally.

The company, which has its headquarters at Kelk Lake near Driffield, will use the new premises to consolidate three existing sites and provide additional capacity for future expansion. The 38,000 sq ft unit will operate as a manufacturing facility, distribution centre and storage space and is expected to become operational later this year.

David Bradley, Managing Director of Neptune Sonar, said:

“This investment marks an exciting milestone for Neptune Sonar and reflects OceanSight’s confidence in our business, our people and our future. Since joining OceanSight, we’ve gained a partner that is accelerating our growth through strategic investment, commercial expertise, global market access, and enhanced operational expertise. This new facility at Evolve provides the foundation to expand our manufacturing capabilities, drive continued innovation, and better serve customers worldwide.”

Evolve @ Melton West was developed by Wykeland Group and provides modern industrial, manufacturing and distribution accommodation. Neptune Sonar will join businesses including Medequip and Revive Auto Repairs at the development.

Wykeland’s Head of Business Space, Liam Knaggs, said:

“We’re delighted to welcome Neptune Sonar to the growing community at Evolve, and to have secured another ambitious, innovative business at Melton West. We delivered Evolve speculatively, reflecting both our confidence that there was an unmet demand from growing businesses looking for modern, high-spec facilities, and our commitment to stimulating investment and growth in the region. This has been confirmed by the high levels of interest we’ve seen at the development. We look forward to seeing Neptune Sonar grow with us at Melton West.”

Interest in the remaining terrace units at Evolve is high, with four 5,000 sq ft units available individually or in multiples to create larger spaces. Suitable for a broad range of businesses, the units can accommodate industrial, manufacturing and distribution operations, as well as trade counter use.

The development of Evolve was supported by grant funding from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, to support economic growth in the region.

The development, delivered by Wykeland Group, comprises seven units ranging from 5,000 to 37,000 sq ft. One of the first tenants is Medequip, the UK’s leading provider of community equipment loan services, which has already occupied one of the larger units to service a major new contract.

Evolve has been built to the highest sustainability standards, with EPC A-ratings, solar panels, EV charging points, green living walls and natural light features, ensuring occupiers benefit from reduced running costs and future-proofed facilities.

Melton West continues to attract significant national and international investment, with global names including Amazon and Smith+Nephew committing hundreds of millions of pounds to new facilities. The Council’s support for Evolve adds a new dimension to this thriving commercial hub, enabling more businesses to join a community that is driving the East Riding’s economy forward.
