Choosing ergo as a Home for Growth

Green & Green Mortgage and Protection is an independent mortgage and personal insurance brokerage based at the ergo Business Centre in Hessle. Specialising in bespoke advice on residential and Buy to Let mortgages, as well as life insurance, critical illness cover, and income protection.

Founded in March 2020 by James Green, just as the country entered its first COVID lockdown, the business began in a small home office where James initially advised close friends, family, and contacts from his former career as a professional rugby player. Despite the challenging circumstances of its launch, Green & Green has grown steadily and is now a team of five — three advisers and two administrators — delivering personalised financial services to clients in Hull and the East Riding as well as across the UK.

When the time came to move out of the home office in 2021, ergo quickly stood out as the perfect fit. For James, the appeal lay in its flexibility: the rolling contracts meant there was no daunting long-term commitment, and with running costs included in the rent, the financial arrangements were straightforward and transparent — ideal for a business still in its early stages of development. What came as an unexpected bonus was the location. Clients found it easy to reach, whether crossing the river, coming from the West Hull villages, or driving straight off the dual carriageway from the East. This accessibility has played a key role in supporting Green & Green’s client-focused approach.

ergo is more than just a business centre, it is a hub for renewables and environmental technologies. Being part of this community has created additional opportunities for Green & Green, whose access to several specialist lenders means clients can benefit from preferential mortgage rates for energy-efficient properties — combining financial wellbeing with environmentally responsible choices.

Starting with one of the smaller offices in September 2021, the company was able to take exactly the space it needed at the time. As the business grew, ergo provided the flexibility to scale up. Over the course of four years, Green & Green expanded into a new office three times larger than the original. The move not only provided the growing team a space to work but also created an area to host client appointments — a vital step in matching the quality of the office environment to the level of service the firm provides.

James reflects: “Moving into a 700 sq. ft office has been a dream. It provides us with the space to grow, a professional setting to meet clients, and an environment that truly reflects the standards we aim to deliver. It feels like the right home for us for the long term.”

The expansion into a larger office was driven by increased demand and the need to accommodate additional staff. For James, the decision reflected not only the practical requirements of a growing business but also his ambition to position Green & Green as a professional and trusted brand within the financial services sector.

James is clear in recommending the ergo Business Centre to others. The combination of flexibility, central location, and professional environment makes it an ideal base for businesses of all sizes. For Green & Green, ergo has provided the stability and adaptability needed to grow with confidence. With its new office space and a strong foundation in place, Green & Green sees no need to move for the foreseeable future.
