Bainton Burrows: Diversifying a family farm through sustainable tourism

A new East Yorkshire glamping business has successfully launched and welcomed its first guests after working with Invest East Yorkshire’s Business Support Services team to turn a farm diversification project into reality.

Bainton Burrows Ltd, based on a working farm in Bainton, was established by Michael Byass and Charlotte Jarrow to create a sustainable new income stream while supporting the area’s growing visitor economy.

The business opened in May 2026 and offers high-quality glamping accommodation through the Wigwam Holidays network, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the East Yorkshire countryside while staying in a unique rural setting. Recognising the need to diversify the farm’s operations, Michael and Charlotte approached Invest East Yorkshire’s Business Support Services team for guidance and support as they developed their plans. The business received support through Invest East Yorkshire, including advice and assistance to help establish the new venture and access investment that enabled the project to move forward successfully.

Since opening, Bainton Burrows has made a strong start, achieving around 70% occupancy during its first month of trading and receiving positive feedback from guests.

The development has also increased visitor accommodation capacity in the area, helping to attract more visitors and create opportunities for local attractions, hospitality businesses, retailers and service providers to benefit from increased tourism spending.

Sustainability has been a key focus throughout the project. Biodiversity and environmental considerations have been incorporated into the landscaping and design of the site, ensuring the development complements its rural surroundings while supporting local wildlife and habitats.

As the business continues to grow, there are plans to create additional employment opportunities to support future demand.
